Unveiling the Heart of 100 Humanitarians

University of Southern California

“Spiritual exemplars are not so concerned with the question of, ‘What is God?’ They are more likely to ask, ‘Where is God?’”

—Donald Miller, co-founder and director of strategic initiatives of the Center for Religion and Civic Culture at USC

The Opportunity

For many Spiritual Exemplars working on humanitarian causes, spirituality is a force that compels them to be engaged with the world. They may be Buddhist, Muslim, Christian or not adhere to any particular tradition. But what they do share is an engaged spirituality.

The Center for Religion and Civic Culture at the University of Southern California is asking, “What new spiritual information can be gathered from studying the lives of Spiritual Exemplars?”

University of Southern California sought to discover and identify shared experiences across 100 Spiritual Exemplars.

The Approach

From the very beginning, this global project was designed to give a unique perspective on today’s spiritual exemplars: people who are advancing human development, grounded in spiritual beliefs which enable them to face the challenges of working on the world’s most difficult issues. Offering a unique view into the lives of these  incredible individuals, our goal was to give audiences a glimpse into these remarkable individual stories while also sharing insightful collective learnings.
